Better Energy Initiates Groundbreaking Battery Energy Storage System Project in Denmark
Better Energy, a leading Renewable Energy company, has made a significant stride by commencing work on its inaugural Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Denmark. The BESS project, set to deliver 12MWh of energy storage, stands as one of the most substantial initiatives in conjunction with a solar park to date. Better Energy will undertake the installation of a cutting-edge 10MW lithium-ion battery system at its Hoby solar park located on Lolland. This system is poised to provide ancillary services and frequency control to bolster the operations of the Danish Transmission System Operator (TSO), Energinet. Thomas Dalgas Fechtenburg, Senior Manager of Ancillary Services at Energinet, emphasized the importance of new technologies and renewable energy companies in supporting the stability and balance of energy systems. He commended Better Energy for their proactive approach in enhancing operational flexibility through the deployment of a sizable battery within their park.
The Hoby solar park, which was seamlessly integrated into the grid in August 2023, boasts a remarkable production capacity of 70 GWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 43,000 Danish residents. The BESS project is slated for completion and operational readiness by the conclusion of 2024. Viggo Aavang, Senior Vice President of Power Markets at Better Energy, highlighted the necessity of collaborating with grid companies to develop strategies that facilitate a flexible power grid driven by renewable energy sources.
